One Response to Rethinking homework (NYTimes)

While I appreciate the concern over the physical and mental health of our students, I do not believe HW is the root cause. Rather, my concern is that we need to be doing more to prepare our students for the increasingly competitive world where they are living. As most of our schools are currently constituted, our academic year (180 days for public) is considerably shorter than most European (195) and Asian (200) countries. On top of that, our school day is also shorter. As it is, I am afraid we are leaving our students ill-equipped to compete. Articles like this seem to be asking us to do less rather than finding new and innovative ways to do more.
